DNA Salivary Diagnostic Testing

Healthy teeth are precious and sometimes we realize this when it is too late. Gum disease is an infectious disease generally caused by a unique group of bacteria. These bacteria actively destroy gum tissue, cause inflammatory reactions and in the end, can be responsible for the loss of teeth and implants. To ensure long-term success, therapy requires a targeted elimination of these bacteria.

DNA salivary testing provides information about the kind and amount of gum disease causing bacteria in your gum pockets. Using this information, Dr. Rico can develop a therapy specifically tailored to the patient's needs, thus helping to obtain maximum therapeutic success. DNA salivary testing helps Dr. Rico decide if an antibiotic will show optimal efficacy. Additionally, the tests serve as ideal tools to monitor the treatment, i.e. to detect a reduction of harmful bacteria or a possible relapse of the disease.

How is the test performed?

The test is easy, quick, and best of all, pain free. DNA salivary testing requires no anesthetic. Small, sterile paper collecting points are placed in selected gum pockets. After ten seconds, the paper points are removed, placed in a sterile collecting tube and sent to the lab for analysis. Lab results take only a few days. It is that simple.
